Oh, how it's been so long.

To my dear and faithful readers,

Its been so long that I don't know what to say except for "Sorry, I had to make you wait". This summer has been fruitful to me in many ways, as you all know I went on a two week expedition to the UK and also started my own expedition with the amazing "Roar of the Crowd" A non-profit organization focusing on the youth.

I will try not to bore you too much because you'll be seeing a lot of me from weekend-to-weekend (En-Sha2-Allah).
This week I will be talking to you about four topics, and my talk of each will be brief one important to the youth, the second important to the country, the third about Muslims and Arabs and last but not least the fourth and most boring one of all; about me.

The First: Leadership Expedition, Roar of the Crowd

While I was with the offscreen team in the UK I made pledge, a pledge to share the skills I gained to the youth in Qatar and most importantly give them the chance to embark on this life-changing experience, I pledged to open doors to many new opportunities and as one of the offscreen expedition 2010 students and one of the founders of Roar of the crowd a non-profit youth organization. I did that, I did that with the help of my Amazing Team: Ali Al-Buainain, Amna Elsaka, Moza Al-Derham, Ali Al-Anssari, Buthaina Al-Hammadi, Patrick Louis, Ghanima Bu-Faissal and Abdulrahman Al-Ali (To know more about the team please Click Here.

In this expedition we looked at 10 important questions concerning the youth in Qatar by doing many activities, watching movies and important videos. We also videoed and broadcast-ed every day of the event on Youtube, Roar of the crowd and Twitter (please click the link and follow us!)

The Second: Movie "Qatar youth; mission to be completed"

Let us all pray that they win this, All for Qatar =)

The Third: Connnections Vs. 5awa6er (Khawater)

Connections is a 10 episode "Detective" documentary that traces the history of many great inventions that led us to the technologies of today Vs Khawater which is broadcast-ed every Ramadan and is in its sixth year.

The reason why I wanted to compare between these two shows is that I watched them both at the same time, I watch Connections in my Media, Institution and Technology class at school and watch Khawater with my sisters after Iftar.

Now what I wanted to say is that they are both very similar in ways of understanding technology and inventions and how what we have today is because of our glorious past. My argument here is that most of the inventions screened on connections were most if not all from the Arab world! But when they mention it, they mention it in brief like "to us from Arabs" then they stop but when it is something else coming from the west, half of the episode is wasted on how it was brought!

I am not saying that Connections is a bad program, actually I believe that everyone should watch it and benefit from it ONLY if they watch Khawater, because in my opinion Connections is missing some steps back to where their inventions come from, and that has created a gap in their episodes which only "Khawater" can fill! :)

Proud to be Muslim.

The Fourth: Myself

I am tired, But I am happy.

My second week at Northwestern University went AMAZINGLY WELL!
Though we have a lot of reading, I am really satisfied and finally feel like "this is what I should be doing" (compared to what we used to do at school, I don't even wanna remember that) Anyway, I am really happy with my professors as well, I really hope I won't lose this feeling. Even though my earliest class starts at 9AM and latest ends at 8.30PM, I'm working extra hard so I won't allow myself room to complain.

Oh, One more thing, I can't wait for Eid for some reason. And also, I can't wait for after the Eid-Break because my university experience, I believe, will be much better. FOR TWO REASONS: I can eat at school and DRINK COFFEE in the morning!

Finally, I just wanna say thanks for reading and sorry if I bore you.
Before I leave I recommend everyone watch Khawater today after Iftar, you can also find it on Youtube from the very first episode to today!

Awaiting your feedback.
Respectfully,
S.A. Al-Derham
